The Helping Hands Scholarship provides a financial award to undergraduate students who have dedicated their time to tutoring or mentoring their peers, recognizing the important role student mentors play in promoting academic success.

This $1,000 scholarship seeks to support educational aspirations while acknowledging the positive impact tutoring and mentoring can have on others. By highlighting students' commitment to helping others' academic growth, this award assists students in pursuing their educational goals while amplifying their vital work in supporting their peers.

Requirements for Scholarship Candidates:

Applicant requirements are as follows:

  • Candidates must be working as a tutor or mentor in some academic capacity.
  • Candidates must be presently enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited college or university within the United States.
  • Candidates must be at least 17 years of age.
  • Candidates must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States.

Applications for the Spring 2025 semester are due by April 14, 2025.

Preparing Your Application:

To submit your application for the Helping Hands Scholarship, please complete these steps:

  • Prove you have worked as a tutor or mentor by providing a signed hour log, pay stub, or something similar.
  • Provide your most recent (unofficial) academic transcript, acceptance letter, or class registration list to demonstrate your status as an undergraduate student.
  • Provide personal contact information as detailed within the digital application.

For the creative portion of the application, we ask scholarship candidates to submit a 500-word essay responding to the following prompt:

What inspired you to begin tutoring or mentoring others, and what has been the most rewarding aspect of this work?

How Your Application Will Be Reviewed:

Applications will be reviewed by the following metrics:

  • Does the applicant's essay clearly illustrate their experience as a tutor or mentor and reflect motivation and passion for helping others?
  • Is the applicant’s essay well structured, free of typos, and original?
  • Does the applicant meet all eligibility and application requirements?
